Screws

Future Design's High Performance Feed Screws are custom designed around the individual resin's melting behavior using the latest screw design software available. This increases the feed screw's output rate and eliminates the possibility of over-shearing. Older screw designs may have low output rates or high melt temperatures causing temperature over-ride in the die zones. This heat comes from worn or inefficient screws that over-shear the resin they are processing, resulting in slower line speeds, because more cooling is required.

* The true melt temperature is measured using a variable depth melt temperature thermocouple. The temperature probe is extended across the melt stream of the adaptor after the exit of the extruder and readings are taken every 1/8". These readings indicate the cross channel melt temperature gradient across the adaptor. There should not be a difference of more than 5°F from coldest to hottest across the exiting extruder melt stream. If the adaptor temperature setting gets too high, or the gradient is too high, greater than 5°F, then the screw is generating too much shear and the melt is too hot resulting in temperature over riding on the die zones and requiring greater cooling downstream.
