The Future Design Manual Screen
Changer incorporates the well-known advantages of
quick filter changes with increased productivity on all forms of
extrusion.
As a replacement element for an existing blown film extrusion
system or as a component in a new full film line or laboratory
application, the Saturn Manual Screen Changer can accommodate
extruders from 1 to 5 inches.
The Saturn Manual Screen Changer is constructed with
heavy-duty steel, chrome plated flow bores, and has custom
engineered adaptors for the extruder and die. It comes complete
with upstream and downstream assembly plates, custom extruder and
die adaptors and pre-wired 220/230 VAC single-phase heater bands.
Improved lever arm design provides simple shifting and
accessibility from both sides of the line.
This simple manual design is ideally suited for any line that
requires a screen changer for routine maintenance and/or colour
changes. Guaranteed to reduce downtime and increase film quality
by reducing film debris and contaminates.
It can be obtained as a retrofit to existing extrusion
applications, and is incorporated on all Future Design Turnkey
Laboratory Lines.

The Future Design Continuous Screen
Changer offers an economical and efficient way for
plastic processors to filter the contaminants from polymer melt
flows. It can be used to filter any type of thermoplastic
material. The distinctive feature is a continuous ribbon of
Reverse Dutch Weave stainless steel filter media, which unwinds
from a canister mounted on the machine. The filter wire enters
the screen changer through a water-cooled sealed inlet port and
is moved through the melt flow at a rate normally controlled by a
timer, but can also respond to increasing upstream melt pressure,
which occurs as contaminants accumulate on the screen.
Due to the unique operating principle, it eliminates the need to
interrupt the process to change clogged screen packs or breaker
plates. This assures constant extrusion pressure, consistent
product quality and decreased scrap production.
Includes the following components:
Guides the filter media into the main body and provides the chilling area for the inlet polymer seal. It is bolted to the main body, and it includes cooling inlet and outlet connections with flexible hoses. Inlet seal port is designed with or without a removable sealing wedge, depending upon the application.
Forms a channel to allow the filter screen to advance while holding it in place. The main body is constructed of steel with polished melt flow surfaces and an electroless nickel finish for corrosion resistance. It also includes the following components:
An integral part of the main body, the cooling chamber is designed for dual heating and cooling purposes. The chamber heats the surface of the polymer plug to allow process pressure to advance the screen and also cools the plug to maintain the seal. It includes the following features:
The screen canister is fully welded stainless steel and bolted to the inlet side of the main body. The canister has a Plexiglas cover for easy visual check of the screen quantity, and it has the capacity for a 120' coil of screen, or a 60' coil of double layer filter screen. The mounting brackets and hardware are included.
For ease of installation and conformance to existing equipment, the universal mount comes suitable for any vertical or horizontal orientation.
The control panel and enclosure provide a complete, self-contained system for time and temperature control. The panel comes suitable for wall mounting. It includes the following features:
| Mesh | Mesh Equivalent | Screen Width | Roll Length |
|---|---|---|---|
| 132 x 17 | 200 sq m | 1.82" | 120' |
