A recap of the contributions that we at Future Design
have developed for the blown film industry over the last
21 years, and our developments for the new Millennium.

Future Design is proud to announce that the future of air ring technology has arrived. With the success of our new Saturn Genie air ring automation system, we have once again revolutionized the blown film industry.

Saturn Genie  Evaluation Cover

This patent pending cooling system can be customized to suit the specifications of each individual user, with the capacity to monitor and record positions. The Genie has the advanced capabilities to control movements and adjustments using a micro-processor and control panel. It develops performance and repeatablity on any blown film line.

Future Design is also making news with our Saturn Mach-1 air ring, with a newly engineered lipset, designed to run low melt strength polymers allowing operators customized control. Extensive tests performed by Exxon Mobil Chemical in Texas, have proven that this air ring produces maximum output capacity at an amazing gauge tolerance of less than +/- 2%! Future Design has CD's or hard copies available with the record-ed results. Call us for your free copy!

Lab Line  Corona Treater

Future Design continues to supply our new Saturn Titan air ring, designed torun high-stalk profile HMW-HDPE. The Titan provides customers with exceptional film prop-erties and 10% output capacity increase. Future Design is continuing to provide complete laboratory and narrow web production lines to process all blown film applications. This system can be custom engineered to target production specifications incorporating ease of operation with full safety features.

Future Design is continuing to provide our valued customers with service, regardless of their requirements, as we once again expand into the business of used equipment. Whether the requirement is to liquidate used inventory or to purchase a previously owned item, we can service all of our blown film associates and look forward to hearing from you with your needs.

This year has been a very good one for our complete Corona Treater Units, as Sandi Holgate has taken sales of this equipment to a higher level. The ease of operation of these units, and the state of the art components make this design superior. The competitive pricing makes it even more valuable to have on any blown film or converting line. We havebeen supplying Corona Treater units since 1994.

Future Design will be showcasing our newest technologies next year in Chicago at North America's largest plastics tradeshow and exhibition, NPE 2003. We will demonstrate our new equipment while celebrating our 25th year in the blown film industry, and we hope to see you there!

Beta site testing for our Saturn Genie automated air ring is now complete. The results are a culmination of research and development, the cooperation of institutions and chemical companies and the operation of the first installed unit in a blown film operation site.

G. Phelps & R. Krycki Genie Genie

Imaflex Inc., a film manufacturer in Quebec, Canada has successfully run the Saturn Genie. Mr. Gerry Phelps, Vice President of manufacturing, speaks about the success of this system:

"Since the installation of the Genie, we have eliminated the uncertainty that had existed between shift operators concerning the setting of the air ring. Typically, air rings are constantly tweaked by operators in an attempt to improve performance over what they perceive to be a change since they left the air ring the previous day. Now, with a digital display showing the position of each variable on the Genie, we have found that the air ring settings are rarely changed. Each operator arrives for his shift and instantly sees the air ring is set as it was the day before."

"The only adjustments required are to the air ring and IBC blowers to maximize output for different resins, gauges and widths. We have now incorporated optimum air ring settings for the Genie into recipes. Operators can view the standard settings for the air ring on the computer display and reset the air ring as specified."   - Gerry Phelps

In June of 2002, we announced our new association as exclusive Canadian representatives for Killion Laboratory and Narrow Web Blown film Extrusion Systems for Crompton Davis Standard Corporation. Since then, we have had dynamic success supplying systems to Canadian plastics manufacturers. This has led Future Design to bring on board to our sales team, an experienced leader in the plastics industry, Mr. Donald (Don) Murray. He joins FDI with a strong technical and leadership background with 15 years of sales and marketing experience in the plastics industry. We welcome him to our sales and marketing team!

Future Design is pleased to announce that we have successfully manufactured and shipped a film line for integration at L'Ecole des Metiers du Sud-Ouest-de-Montreal.

School Line

Students at this technical training facility will use this system to further the training and operations of film management systems for the future. This fully integrated modular-designed film line can be customized to suit the process requirements of almost any application, for laboratory testing or narrow web tubing production. It can be manufactured to suit a maximum of 24-inch layflat width with a maximum 2-inch 20 horsepower extruder. The Future Design patented bubble management systems found on larger production lines are correctly sized for the new cantilevered system. This system also includes the new 'Little Giant' Cantilevered Winder which has the capability for integration of a variety of controls and features to suit any budget. Contact us for a customized quotation of a system to suit your exact process requirements. This unit is custom designed and engineered for cost-efficiency.

Future Design has recently teamed up with Measuretech Measurement Technology Corporation to supply continuous gauge monitoring systems which monitor multiple film lines with real time on-line gauge profiling units. These units can retrofit any blown film line.

Measuretech

Their systems are un-surpassed in accuracy and cost efficiency while maintaining ease of operation and operator training. Call us today for a customized quotation to suit your needs.

As an additional advantage to Saturn Air Ring customers, Future Design has a program in place, our SHARRP program (Saturn Harmonized Air Ring Replacement Program), which allows Saturn customers to trade in their existing air rings for a new Saturn air ring with the latest lipset designs. The trade in value of the existing air ring is applied as a credit towards the price of a new Saturn air ring. The customer sends the old air ring to us upon receipt of the new one, minimizing any downtime.

The benefits of receiving the latest lipset designs include increases in production rates, better bubble control and lowered gauge variation, improving overall film quality.

Our air ring trade-in program is beneficial, as today's resin applications, process parameters and air ring technology differ so greatly from what was considered standard twenty-five years ago. It provides the latest blown film technology and engineering at a cost that makes it even more attainable for current Saturn air ring customers.

Message From Our President

Robert D. Krycki & Douglas Holgate

Future Design sadly mourns the passing of a dear friend and valued employee, Mr. Douglas Holgate. He began with Future Design in 1995 as a skilled tradesman, and worked with us until he was physically unable. The cancer may have taken him from this world, but he will always be in our hearts and will surely be missed.

We welcome everyone to the future of bubble management solutions. This fiscal year, Future Design will reach our 25th year of supplying engineering, sales, service and state-of-the-art components for blown film lines. As we enter into the digital era, we have customized our equipment to meet the demands of the blown film industry and our customers. We have designed our air rings to produce maximum output, provide exceptional gauge control and cool a wider range of process and polymer variations. With the integration of complete air ring robotics, and expansions such as auto gauge profilers, and internal bubble cooling systems, we can provide today's film manufactures with tomorrow's sophistication and film perfection.

We look forward to providing you with a customized bubble management solution for your blown film system.

"Welcome to the Future!"
Robert Krycki - President / CEO

Just a reminder to let everyone know that we will be having our annual Christmas break shutdown during the week of December 23 to January 3, 2002. Be sure to place any equipment orders before that time to avoid delays.

Future Design Announces Success of Saturn Polymers Venture
